With free agency coming up this summer, the Knicks among other teams will have choices when it comes to big men. But reports have been coming out from Frank Isola of the NY Daily Post states that the New York Knicks and Greg Monroe is ‘About As Close To A Done Deal As You Can Get’.
The possibility of Piston Monroe headed to NY Knicks is real. Frank Isola has stated the relationship between Phil Jackson and Monroe’s agent goes way back. He explains in the following:
Maybe the worst kept secret in the NBA is that Phil Jackson plans to pursue Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe in free agency this summer. In fact, one league executive called it ‘about as close to a done deal as you can get.’
A done deal is illegal of course and would open Jackson and the Knicks to tampering charges. A more likely scenario is that representatives from both parties have made their interest known and will proceed accordingly once the free-agent recruiting period begins on July 1st. It happens all the time.
After finding out about the existing relationship between the New York Knicks President and Greg Monroe’s agent, David Falk, you can understand where these rumors came from.
As mentioned their is an abundance of free agents this off-season that will give the Lakers a chance to get another solid big man like Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge if these rumors are true about Monroe.
The Detroit Pistons can still make him an offer but they will not be able to offer him the max deal like The Lakers or Knicks would be able to.
Phil Jackson the zen master is always up to something. The Knicks also have a top draft pick due to their amazing season. So the possibility of adding Okafor or Towns to that front line exists. That frontline will put up a real problem for a lot of teams.
